RICHARD MAGUIRE-GONZALEZ – SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT, NATIONAL NETWORK DEVELOPMENT

Richard Maguire-Gonzalez's healthcare experience began more than 30 years ago as a radiology technician in the USAF and has progressed through practicing as a physician’s assistant, to Director of Provider Relations for HMO Florida to founder and President of the first independent preferred provider organization in Florida. Always seeking the cutting edge of health care, Rick joined U.S. Preventive Medicine in 2007 and brings his expertise in developing healthcare provider relationships to form the delivery system for the company’s prevention services.

As a radiology physician’s assistant, Mr. Maguire-Gonzalez learned first hand the clinical and business challenges facing American healthcare practitioners. He used this knowledge to lead the HMO network development from 1984 to 1989 as Director of Provider Relations of HMO Florida, a subsidiary of U.S. Healthcare, Inc. This HMO company was the first independent practice association (IPA) model HMO throughout Florida. McGuire-Gonzales was instrumental in negotiating the first capitated agreements with hospital IPAs, behavioral medicine groups, podiatry practices and pharmaceutical companies in Florida. He also organized and led HMO member instructional seminars for educating members on receiving healthcare.

In 1989, his entrepreneurial spirit led him to form Corporate Health Services, Inc., the first statewide PPO (Preferred Provider Organization) in Florida. The company operated CHS HealthNet, a managed healthcare network for group health PPO plans, ERISA health plans, and Worker Compensation insurers. The company completed individual physician, group, IPA, and hospital system agreements to form a network of more than 4000 providers in two years. The respected network attracted insurer clients such as Aetna Health, Lincoln National and the prestigious employer group, The PGA Tour. He sold the network in 1993 to a national PPO, Health Star, Inc.

Working in a consulting role, Maguire-Gonzalez joined Chris Fey as a founding partner to form HealthCare USA in 1993. Becoming the company’s Vice President of Health Delivery Systems, he had direct responsibility for selecting and training network recruiting teams, researching new market provider relationships and contracting the comprehensive health care networks. The company expanded throughout Florida as the highest quality rated Medicaid HMO and went on to form a multi-state licensed HMO in Alabama, Missouri, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia in less than two years. He served as member of the Board of Directors and Corporate Secretary as the company was acquired by publicly held Coventry Health Care Corporation. He continued as Vice President as the company grew to more than $130 million in revenues in just its third year of operation. In 1996 he resigned from HealthCare USA and reformed his health care consulting company, Corporate Health Services.

Until joining U. S. Preventive Medicine, Mr. Maguire-Gonzalez provided a range of consulting services to commercial PPO companies, dental HMO networks and hospital health systems. He is a graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Medicine, Physician Assistant Program. and holds a BS in Health Administration with honors from the University of Florida.
