Sami A. Bég, MD MPA MPH, serves as the Associate Medical Director of U.S. Preventive Medicine® and its subsidiary, U.S. Care Management. 

Dr. Bég has more than 10 years clinical and physician executive experience in the healthcare industry.  Trained in Preventive Medicine, Dr. Bég has a keen understanding of healthcare IT and has been intricately involved in product strategy and product development.  Recruited to help develop and launch a new web based prevention and wellness product for employers and individuals, Dr. Bég was among the first few employees of U.S. Preventive Medicine and joined as the first full time physician at the company in 2007.  He was instrumental in designing the clinical and other protocols for the launch of The Prevention Plan™ in late 2008.  Dr. Bég is also the creator of The Prevention Score™ a unique algorithm based scoring that forms the basic core of The Prevention Plan™.  Experts have described it as not only highly innovative, but also as one of the best dynamic scores they have seen in the industry which provides a strong mechanism to incentivize behavior change and improve health outcomes.  The Prevention Score™ was instrumental in the company receiving its first client, a multi-year, multi-million dollar contract, in addition to winning other flagship accounts. 

As the lead visionary and architect of the upcoming kid’s product line, Dr. Bég is using his skills to build The Prevention Plan for Kids with the aim of helping children and families lead healthier lives.  Dr. Bég also heads the Health Strategy business unit that works to create a culture of health at worksites based on best practices and has also developed the clinical algorithms and content for The Prevention Plan’s mobile application.  Dr. Bég was the lead researcher and co-author of U.S. Preventive Medicine’s first published study that showed significant health outcomes improvement in the population managed through The Prevention Plan™.  He was a member of the team in U.S. Preventive Medicine’s successful Accreditation in Health Promotion and Wellness from NCQA and for disease management from URAC.  U.S. Preventive Medicine was one of the first organizations of its kind in the nation to attain the credential through NCQA. 

Dr. Bég provides leadership and management at various levels in an organization.  The many years of experience as an executive in the healthcare delivery and preventive medicine industry is coupled with a deep understanding of international healthcare markets especially in the Mid-east and Southeast Asia.  Dr. Bég serves as a consultant to several organizations and given his varied education and experience brings a very unique dimension.  He is a member of the American College of Preventive Medicine and the immediate past president of the Young Physicians Section.  He is also a member of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, American College of Lifestyle Medicine and the American Association of Public Health Physicians.  Dr. Bég also serves on the Mayor’s Council on Fitness and Well-being for the City of Jacksonville being appointed by the Mayor of Jacksonville, Florida.

Dr. Bég has a sincere passion for health and service and is a motivational speaker on a variety of subjects including weight management and smoking cessation.  He has been a medical contributor to the health page of ABCNews.com and has developed clinically focused topic overviews on various public health issues that have been featured on the Public Health & Prevention Web page of Medscape, a subsidiary of WebMD.  He has provided numerous presentations nationally and internationally as well as authored or co-authored many articles on healthcare and a variety of other subjects.  Dr. Bég serves on public health committees where he helps develop policy positions and educational materials on important preventive medicine and public health topics. 

Dr. Bég received his Doctor of Medicine from SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York and completed his medical residency in Preventive Medicine at the New York State Department of Health and State University of New York at Albany.  Dr. Bég received a Masters in Public Health at SUNY Albany and a Masters in Public Administration with a concentration in Health Services Management and Policy from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University.
