BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Wayne N. Burton has over 30 years experience in healthcare and corporate occupational medicine services including healthcare data integration, wellness and disease management programs, integrated disability management and planning for critical incidents. In 2009, he became Global Corporate Medical Director for American Express Corporation. Previously, he was Corporate Medical Director for JPMorgan Chase for over 25 years where he managed a staff of over 80 healthcare professionals for over 225,000 employees worldwide. Dr. Burton is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg Medical School, and Adjunct Professor of Environmental and Occupational Sciences, University of Illinois at Chicago.
In 1992, he was a co-founder and President of Northwestern Internists, a primary care practice based at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago.
He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, the Institute of Medicine of Chicago, and the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine. He is a past Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Midwest Business Group on Health and was a member of the Board of Directors of the National Business Group of Health. He is on the editorial boards of Population Health Management and the Journal of Health and Productivity.
Dr. Burton has received many awards in recognition of his work, namely the 1998 American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine and Health Achievement Award, the 2002 Jonas Salk Health Leadership Award from the March of Dimes, the 2006 National Mental Health Association Innovation Award, the 2008 National Business Group on Health Innovation in Health and Productivity Award and, in 2009,he was the first recipient of the Global Leadership in Corporate Health Award from the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine and the National Business Group on Health.
He has been an author on over 75 publications in peer-reviewed medical journals relating to employee health and productivity, and presented at over 200 meetings in the U.S. and internationally.
Dr. Burton completed his BA at the University of California-Santa Barbara, and his medical training at the University of Oregon Medical School in Portland. He completed his Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine and was the Chief Medical Resident at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Chicago, IL.
