A notable shift is occurring that is forcing governments, employers, providers and consumers to swing long-standing attitudes and behaviors from what has historically been reactive care, to a new model – proactive, preventive care.  Payors are realizing the best strategy to control costs is to address the underlying factors that contribute to employee population health.

According to a recent Forrester Research report, two-thirds of employers currently or plan to include wellness and disease management programs in their health benefit offerings

Skyrocketing health care costs are forcing government, businesses and consumers to quickly look for new alternatives to slow down this explosive growth. Multiple studies indicate that prevention, early detection and chronic disease management is the long term solution.  In fact, the independent economic think tank Milken Institute reports these solutions would reduce the economic impact of disease by 27 percent, or $1.1 trillion annually by 2023.  It is possible to reduce the number of cases of chronic disease by 40 million.
