Mr. Charles W. Smithers, Jr. is Executive Vice President/Chief Financial Officer of U.S. Preventive Medicine®. Mr. Smithers joined U.S. Preventive Medicine in September 2007 when the Company acquired Specialty Disease Management (SDM), where he served as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer since 2002.
Prior to joining SDM, Mr. Smithers was a principal and co-founder of Healthcare Performance, Inc., a health care consulting and business management organization from 1991 to 2002, and a co-founder for the Center for Practical Health Reform, Inc., a not-for-profit organization involved in a national health care reform effort, in which he served as an advisor and Board of Trustees member from 2002 to the present.
Mr. Smithers began his career as an accountant for Deloitte and Touche, LLC. He was later recruited to be the administrator of new multi-specialty physician group affiliated with a large public hospital, University Medical Center. He ultimately became CEO of that organization, Jacksonville Faculty Practice Association, Inc., building that group from 25 to 165 physicians, and developing 9 subsidiary corporations.
